Edinburgh specialists from stonemasons to solicitors

Large parts of central Edinburgh are conservation areas and many buildings are listed, so even a new window or a flue can need the council’s consent. On each list, firms that do the job every working day go first.

Choose a heading, such as home and trades, private health, solicitors and property, cars, schools and tuition, weddings, fitness or pets. Each opens short Edinburgh lists, one for every kind of job, and further lists follow as each is completed.

From the Old Town ridge to the Forth

Edinburgh climbs from Leith and Portobello on the Forth to the Old Town ridge, with the Georgian New Town and Stockbridge to the north and Bruntsfield, Marchmont and Morningside to the south. Trams link the airport to Newhaven, but parking is limited and a Low Emission Zone covers the centre.

What earns a place on a list

Lists favour businesses for which the job is the daily trade, whose record with customers stretches back years and whose websites say outright what they do and charge. A place on a list cannot be bought, and Pro and Top plans are flagged wherever they show.
